Support the Anti-Discrimination Bill
Read: Newbreak’s Muslims Up In Arms Against Discrimination. This is but one case of Discrimination.
Discrimination is not just experienced by the Muslim Nurses but also by the very Champion of the Anti-Discrimination Bill, Cong. Mujiv Hataman. He and his wife personally experienced discrimination. Atty Algamar Latiph of Muslim Legal Assistance Founcation (MUSLAF) and Atty Raissa Jajurie of Bangsamoro Legal Network helped the Cong. Hataman draft the Bill.
The bill has passed the 3rd Reading in the House. It now at the Senate.
Under Secretary Rafael “Paeng” Seguis has pledge to help bill pass to Samira Gutoc (Young Moro Professionals Network Membership Convenor; MYSpeak Project Implementor).
This bill is not just anti-discrimination against Muslim but in Anti-Discrimination in General for example Employers cannot discriminate against sex, religion or gender.
How YOU can Help this Bill Pass:
1. Let your family know the Importance of this Bill. If your family is close to any of the Senators, you can inform him or her through your Family that the Bill is Important to You and Your Family. (Most of our Families have connections to National Leaders. Senators need Mindanao Votes — specially ARMM vote to be no. 11 or 12)
2. Share this Post. I have a note at Facebook for this post. In facebook you can click on share
Spread the word around. If someone close to the Senators read this post, he or she can whisper this to their ears. In fact the Senators are in Facebook. I hope this post reach them.

YMPN Supports ICRC’s Call for the Release of Hostages
Young Moro Professionals Network, Inc.’s Statement on Sulu Kidnapping
The Young Moro Professionals Network, organized exclusively for charitable, socio-cultural and educational purposes by empowering the Moro youth professionals so they could contribute to the development and enhancement of the quality of life of the Bangsamoro people, joins the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in their plea for the safe release of Andreas Notter, Eugenio Vagni and Mary Jean Lacaba.
The ICRC is an impartial, neutral and independent organization whose exclusively humanitarian mission is to protect the lives and dignity of victims of war and internal violence and to provide them with assistance. It directs and coordinates the international relief activities conducted by the Movement in situations of conflict. It also endeavours to prevent suffering by promoting and strengthening humanitarian law and universal humanitarian principles. (ICRC Mission Statement)
The Moros have benefited from ICRC activities in our areas.
While we do sympathize with the concern raised by the Abu Sayyaf for demilitarization of and development for Moro Regions, we strongly condemn the January 15, 2009 kidnapping and hostage taking by the Abu Sayyaf, who are also young indviduals. The methods of the Abu Sayyaf are detrimental to the image and development of the Moros and Filipino Muslims in general.
We condemn those who victimize people who only wish to help the victims of the conflict in the Bangsamoro.
We equally condemn atrocities regardless of who the victims are and who the perpetrators are.
We especially condemn the victimization of humanitarian aid workers.
The kidnapping of aid workers will only hurt our people who desperately need the help of the outside community.
Any act of banditry against aid workers can only serve the interests of the enemies of the Bangsamoro. Any act of banditry is un-Islamic.
We strongly support the ICRC and urge the immediate and safe release of the hostages.
MR. Tony Blair is Wrong about ISLAM
Mr. Tony Blair is wrong when he stated that there are two Islam – moderate and extremist – and that there is a titanic struggle for the future of Islam.
There is only ONE ISLAM.
What Mr. Blair might be referring is limited to the POLITICS of the REGION. I am sad that he equate the politics in the region as ISLAM. As an expert on dealing with IRA he should have known that some political groups have strong ties with religion but we never heard them as saying those religion as Exteremist or Moderate.
Mr. Blair also expressed his reason why he joined the campaign of Mr. Bush against Iraq. I am beginning to believe and I fear that it is his ignorance of Islam that made him join Mr. Bush’s Crusade.
Mr. Blair is not a Muslim. It is unfortunate that he wants to tell Muslims how to practice Islam. Will he tell non-Muslims or non-believers of faith how to practice their belief? (Hello BIG BROTHER!)
Mr. Blair expressed his willingness to help in the Mindanao Conflict. I hope our government or the MILF will not accept this offer. Mr. Blair has no Idea about Islam. He might not differentiate it from being Moro. He might not even know that Great Britain has a share in the woes of Mindanao by taking away Sabah from the Sultan of Sulu by striking a deal with Spain when the Sultan then thought he could depend on the British to uphold the balance of power in the region.
I am now sad and scared that a lot of Filipinos are just taking in what Mr. Blair has to say
I wonder – If our President can do this?
Obama launches ‘YouTube diplomacy’ – INQUIRER.net, Philippine News for Filipinos
Link
Obama’s act helped people in Iran and US to communicate with one another. So this makes me wonder if President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo can address the Bangsamoro in the same way.
To encourage the People living in the Philippines to communicate with one another, is a great step in addressing our issues on Peace. However, I forgot that most of the provinces of the Philippines lack the infrastructure for email and some congressmen are thinking of charging a fee for text which is the medium for communication for those in the provinces. I bet even if the President will sincerely address the Bangsamoro people it will not spark any good response because the Philippines (including the ARMM offiicials because they are government) has not shown shown anything to the Bangsamoro that will make them believe that living under the Philippine jurisdiction can bring them any good. Unfortunate
YMPN New Chairperson
On 8 March 2009, YMPN Council of Convenors — the Chairs of the 9 YMPN Standing Committees and YMPN Board of Directors, agreed on Masuwara and chose SHAHANA ABDULWAHID as the YMPN Chairperson for Year 2009.
Twitter and Plurk
I use two micro-blogging service — Twitter and Plurk.
I like Plurk because interaction with other users are easier.
I was about to delete my Twitter account when I realized that compared to Plurk, Twitter announces to the others something you think without the need for you to reply back. It is better for announcements or notices. Its a small bulletin board.
So I have Plurk to keep in touch with friends and Twitter for short announcements or notices.
